I can confirm. Having played the first one, then Hidden Depths, then replaying now the first one.. I see they added this pictogram chase as a transition from 1 to 2 :) The second game is called "Submerged 2" in the window caption, by the way ;)

Similarly, just now, having played Hidden Depths and remembering Submerged 1 I played long ago.. decided to replay it. Then I noticed the symbols in the game's title (Submerged has some symbols underneath). Wanted to do like you, but decided to look if someone else did it already :) And here I am. 2025! :P

I remember this. I still have the fridge magnents they gave out at E3. I also remember they handed out scented highlighters.

I've always had this doubt because since 2018 I've been collecting games and when I started buying the Japanese versions of my favorite games (Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Parasite Eve, Dino Crises and others) I saw that they all had these red symbols and I didn't know why, only now that I decided to research what it was, excellent explanation 🙂

No worries, and thanks for the permission! I have the post about the CUBE magazine fascias almost ready! It's on my to-do list but I'm not sure when I'll get to it but I will reply to this comment to let you know when I do ^^

Yay for happy collecting :D I'd love to see how you arrange them, if you would like to share what you decide on.

Regarding 1. WOW!!! How did you find that that's so cool! I will have to add updating this post to my to-do list too xD Man it's so cool that there is STILL gamecube jewel stuff I don't know about. I wonder if they did that any other times? I'll have to check for scans

Regarding 2. Can you tell me about all the sticker sets you know of please? I'd love to know, I honestly think "Nintendo says slap a sticker on your gamecube" is just as interesting as regular jewels haha. And jeeeeeez "We sell them individually by cutting them into ① to ⑥, so please leave a comment with the sticker number you want.
If you want all the stickers, it will be 40,000 yen." That's a lot for stickers o.o

Hey! Omg I have never really used Disqus before so I never saw you're reply, but you're very much welcome to use my photo! I am not worried about credit, but if you just want to add my username from here "Aquacc" that's enough for me :)

And collecting them all did take a while but I enjoyed the process. Still thinking how I want to have them displayed too. But like you mentioned it's cool to see there are some other people out there that are interested in this niche accessory!

A couple more tidbits for you:
1. The Animal Crossing (Doubutsu no Mori) Jewel Sticker came from an issue of Famitsu Cube + Advance back in 2003 (not sure about the specific issue # unfortunately). The magazine appendix very often had sticker sets, and in one issue they had the jewel sticker for Animal Crossing + another one for Mario Golf! (photo below, sorry for poor quality)

2. There were additional sticker sets for the GameCube jewel released in Japan that aren't mentioned in your post, but the only one I own and have seen pop up for sale a few times over the past couple years is this Pokemon XD gale of darkness one. Good luck collecting them, I saw a lot of them were quite pricy (there's a reason I only collect the photographs, personally haha) but it's such a cool item. I wonder if the folks over at console variations have any more collector-focused tips?

I very much enjoyed your overview of the GameCube jewels and as a retro game collector needed some knowledge of which were actually genuine.

I currently have the double dash and metroid displayed on my GameCubes and also have the complete resident evil system boxed.

Not sure which jewel to chase after next but the prices have sky rocketed over recent years. I'll probably pick up a few of the copies as they're reasonably priced, the star wars one does look pretty good! Thanks again for the post and keep up the great work!

It's kinda embarrassing that I totally forgot to check Internet Archive haha oops! That's how research goes, you get so into the weeds you forget the big things sometimes. I wanted to mention that Cube Magazine has a decent number of issues archived on archive.org - https://archive.org/details... , and i have gone through a couple of the issues and found some new designs you don't have pictured here (For example, Issue 17 on Page 18)! I also own issue 12 of Cube Magazine, which i don't see archived which features some others you don't have in the images included, so i'll include a photo of that here :)
